Star Pinball Review: Supernova Goes Pop

Pinball is one of the most prolific forms of classic arcade gaming.  On the app store one can find a myriad of pinball games ranging in style and quality that could fill a football stadium.  Star Pinball attempts to shine among this great pantheon of choices.  Fortunately, the developers managed to inject quite a bit of charm into their adaptation of the game.

Art style: The choice of art for a pinball game is of the utmost importance as it is almost the only criteria that can be used to separate one game from another.  Star Pinball does a fantastic job of making itself stand apart with its use of vibrant pinks and purples.  This color scheme is further enhanced by beautifully designed effects that can be seen whenever the pinball makes contact with an object on the table.

Varied Game Speeds: A fantastic feature I found myself coming back to over and over again is the three distinct game speed settings.  I initially ran with the super fast setting, but then found that I preferred the slower setting as it makes the effects the pinball makes when coming in contact with objects vastly more distinct and noticeable.  I highly recommend you at least play a few rounds on the slowest setting so you can fully appreciate the show.

Limited number of tables: Categorizing this feature as a Like or Dislike was incredibly difficult when comparing the game to others available on the app store.  While it is true that the majority seem to be a single table to play on and Star Pinball has two, it is perhaps because I enjoyed the game so much that I found myself wanting to play more tables and thus found my craving for more to ultimately leave me just a little unsatisfied.

Put it simply, if you are hardcore into pinball or even if you are just a casual player, you should do yourself a favor and pick up Star Pinball as soon as possible and enjoy one of the best pinball games the iPhone has to offer.

Star Pinball was developed by Nate Games, and I played through version 1.0 of the game on my iPod Touch 3G (OS 3.1.2).  The current price point of the game is $1.99.
