The RPG genre is a genre that we’ve seen work well on the iPhone, ranging from fully-3D Oblivion-type RPGs to the more Eastern-style RPGs with the release of Zenonia. While there aren’t many in there just quite yet, the high entry level set by the likes of Dungeon Hunter and Zenonia may only make room for the more experienced developers.
Fortunately, FDG Entertainment in collaboration with Japanese developer Exe Create are releasing their new RPG Across the Age to an iPhone near you, and while the game is still in development, it looks to be coming along fairly well.
According to FDG, the game will feature 15 hours of gameplay along with HD graphics and the choice of two characters. The character types include Ales the swordsman and Ceska the magician. While the content doesn’t seem as much as Zenonia’s “40 hours of gameplay”, it looks as if the storyline will be “exciting”.
The game is already being compared with Chrono Trigger and Zelda, arguably two of the best RPGs ever made. We can only hope for a Zelda or Chrono Trigger experience on the iPhone as that’s probably the closest we’ll ever get.
We should have more news as it becomes available, but check out these new screenshots along with the new gameplay trailer. As the game is still in its alpha stages, I would expect the game to be released around January of next year.
