Polyhedra Review: Recommended For All Shapes and Sizes

Polyhedra is quite a game, and I’ve really never encountered anything like it.  I guess you could label it as a strategy/puzzle game, but there’s really no other name for this other than a shapeshifting game.  Polyhedra is very unique and very well made, and while there were some small problems here and there, the overall game was surprisingly solid.

Visuals: These quirky, rainbow-like visuals are really well done, and I really love the unique lighting on the game.  It’s something I haven’t quite seen much of, and the visuals were engaging enough to stand out.  While it was a little bit simple, it’s definitely impressive for an individual person.

Unique: If I haven’t said it yet, I’ll say it again.  This is one of the most unique games I have encountered on the App Store, and these individual efforts like Polyhedra make for a solid base of the App Store.  This unique puzzler is very well thought out and very well executed, and I would have never come up with such an idea.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve never seen this before.

Change the Look: This game is seriously made for the iPhone, and it’s really cool to be able to tilt your screen around.  This allowed to manipulate the enemies and allow for more options when playing the game, and it added a lot to the overall strategy.  The tilting was also very responsive, and the changing of titles from one side to another was very smooth.

Finger: When I would make a shape, I would find my fingers to be blocking my view of the enemies.  It would be really hard to see my enemies and make a shape at the same time, and while there aren’t many other options, it was still a slight problem.  It may bother some more than others, and it didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would.

Polyhedra was a very solid puzzler that’s fresh and quirky for the young and the old.  At only $1.99, you get online leaderboards, many levels, and some engaging gameplay.  Some may not find this to be enjoyable, but my time with this game has been overwhelmingly positive.  Design is very well done, and this game really shows what an individual can really do.

Polyhedra was developed by Binary Hammer, and I played through version 1.1.1 on my 1st generation iPhone.  The price is $1.99.

About Daniel

I have been an iPhone game addict ever since the NES emulator came out on the 1.1.4 iPhone 2G. After 2.0 and the App Store came out, my iPhone homescreen has never been the same. Other than writing reviews for App Store games, I play soccer/football, American football, volleyball, and golf. I love going to the beach and fishing on the pier. Some games not available on iPhone/iPod Touch that I truly love are the Call of Duty series, Guitar Hero III, Madden NFL 09, and PGR: Gotham Racing.
