Hands-On With Meteor Blitz

The App Store is filled with twin stick shooters nowadays including iDracula, Occurro, 2079, and others.  While some like iDracula and Occurro have caught my attention for maybe a few days, no twin stick shooter has ever gotten me so addicted than Meteor Blitz.  To all fans of twin stick shooters, Meteor Blitz is the best I’ve encountered so far.

Meteor Blitz is somewhat different from other twin stick shooters in that it features no loading times whatsoever.  It’s the weirdest phenomena I’ve ever encountered, but the game is sitting right in front of me loading within seconds with no loading screen whatsoever.  Meteor Blitz seems to be very concentrated on this, and it’s great for people who plan to play their iPhone games while waiting for a stoplight to change or waiting for the bus to move.

The soundtrack for almost all the worthy shooters in the App Store are immersive and well done, and Meteor Blitz doesn’t fail to deliver.  I found the soundtrack to be so great that I was enchanted by the game even without headphones or other ear peripherals.  The soundtrack is a major part of shooters, and Meteor Blitz seems to feature some of the best around town.

Graphics aren’t pitiful either; they are crafted in beautiful 2.5D along with some great lighting effects.  I would have liked there to be a little more design in the ship, but the meteors and enemies are definitely well designed.  Again, the game features some of the best graphics a twin stick shooter can provide, and it also provides a different look.  I’m glad the developers took on a new perspective of the crowded genre, and its definitely not just another space shooter.

If you couldn’t tell by now, Meteor Blitz is one of the best shooters I have ever encountered on the App Store.  It’s not another Geometry Wars clone or a 2079 clone, this is a beautifully fashioned game.  Sure the developers could have gotten their ideas from other App Store games, and I can’t say the game is very original, but the ideas were executed with sheer perfection.  I really don’t know what else to say, the developer(s) did a great job with the game and I cannot wait for its release.  Meteor Blitz is definitely a must have for fans of this genre.

The game has been submitted to the App Store and is currently waiting approval.

About Daniel

I have been an iPhone game addict ever since the NES emulator came out on the 1.1.4 iPhone 2G. After 2.0 and the App Store came out, my iPhone homescreen has never been the same. Other than writing reviews for App Store games, I play soccer/football, American football, volleyball, and golf. I love going to the beach and fishing on the pier. Some games not available on iPhone/iPod Touch that I truly love are the Call of Duty series, Guitar Hero III, Madden NFL 09, and PGR: Gotham Racing.
