We did a first look at Pipe Mania a while ago, but we never got the chance to write a full review of the game. Well, we finally had the time to sit down and write one. Pipe Mania is a game that has been available on almost every gaming platform, the iPhone now included. It features tons of maps and themes, and it surely will please puzzle fans.
Artwork and Design: The main thing that some iPhone games are missing is adequate design in their menus and other miscellaneous screens. Pipe Mania does a great job with the overall design of the game, and it looks decent.
Puzzling: The puzzle factor for the game is definitely present in this game, and it is quite challenging. Although it isn’t quite for the younger ones, puzzle fans will enjoy this original experience.
Achievements: The game features a lot of achievements, which definitely adds to the replay value of the game. Unlockables range from bonus mini games to different character profiles. Although characters aren’t exactly involved in this game, it’ll be interesting to find out once I get far through the game.
Content: The game is not short on content… at all. It features 4 game modes ranging from world (campaign) mode to bonus mini games. The world mode features around 56 levels along with a classic mode that features even more levels. Bonus mini games are also included, although I’m not exactly sure how many. I can tell you that there are more than 2 though.
Button Response: When tapping an option, the response seemed a little slow to process, resulting in a few seconds of waiting before the next screen. Sometimes, it would seem like I tapped the wrong button/option, and the confirmation highlight around the button is not present. It made the menus and options a little awkward.
Difficulty: The game is a little difficult for beginners like me, and although it is definitely playable, difficulty is an issue. The tutorial was hard to understand, but once I figured the game out, it was hard to execute. After getting used to the game, the ramping of difficulty was still present, and the game is definitely difficult for kids to play.
For $4.99, you receive a bunch of content and replay value that will surely keep you entertained for a long time. Whether it’s on the plane or in a train, Pipe Mania delivers many hours of impressive gameplay that’s unrivaled by any other game. Its 4 game modes and other extras make this game one of the most content packed games ever. The gameplay itself is also very entertaining, and I found the game to work extremely well. It is difficult though, and difficulty options would have been nice, but for now the game executes a pretty immersive experience.
