New Reviews Rating System

You may have noticed we’ve been giving reviews a recommendation lately, such as “Worth a Look” or “Buy”.  This is all a part of trying to make it easier for you, the reader, to determine which games on the app store are worth your time.  I’ll be taking a bit of time here to explain the system, and a couple of new features that have been added to the site.

Each game that is reviewed receives one of four scores:  “Avoid“, “Worth a Look“, “Buy“, or “Must Have“.  For the most part, I think the scores are pretty self explanatory.  I’d still like to encourage you to read more about each of the scores and their meanings on our About page, to get a better idea of what each score means.

If you’re in a hurry, you can quickly see our impression of the game by looking for a coloured badge at the end of each review.  There are also badges when browsing the Reviews page now that quickly give you an idea of how the game was rated, without reading the review.  Here’s a shot of it in action:

We hope you’ll like our reviews scale and find it helpful!  Let us know what you think of it in the comments, and feel free to offer suggestions to improve the site.

Telling your readers that it’s OK to not read the reviews by use of a quick badge up top? Seems to me like you’d WANT viewers to be reading your content rather than just focusing on a quick score rating.

    Hi Carter,

Thanks for the feedback. It’s up to the readers to decide how much they want out of the site. Of course, it would be nice to know that all readers would be reading through the full review for every game, but this can’t be expected. If someone just wants a quick recommendation when looking for a new game, now the option is there.

For most readers, the badges are there to give a quick idea of what the game received, and are meant to generate an interest to read the review and see the reasons why it scored that way.

    Thanks!
